Born in New York, New York, he graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in 2003 and from the Hofstra University School of Law with a J.D. in 2006. Mr. Capriati began his career as a Governmental Affairs and Corporate & Securities attorney with a prominent national firm. Following this, Steven served as a Lead Trial Attorney for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, trying the most serious felony cases and earning a reputation for courtroom readiness. In a widely covered 2016 trial, he appeared for the State as lead prosecutor in a fatal hit‑and‑run matter—experience that now informs his approach to complex civil litigation.
Steven brings a rare 360‑degree perspective to civil practice and to the clients of Black Rock. After his service as a prosecutor, he joined Morgan & Morgan where he successfully represented plaintiffs in general and premises liability cases. Most recently, he represented self-insured companies, insurance companies, and those whom they insure with AmLaw Top 100 national defense firms in general & premises liability, trucking, toxic tort, and medical malpractice matters.
A Tampa native, Steven was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2006 and is admitted to all Florida state courts and the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Florida.
Before law, Steven competed as a professional tennis player after successful collegiate stints at the University of South Florida and the University of Arizona where he earned All-Conference Honors. He appeared in Grand Slam mixed‑doubles draws, and his ITF/ATP record reflects the competitive intensity he now brings to trial work.
